Calculation of TMT bar Weight

TMT bars are used a lot in construction, so their weight is one of the most important things to know. The exact formula for finding the mass of steel per square meter is D*D/162. In this formula, D is the bar’s diameter (in meters) and its weight (in kilograms). Here, W is the bar’s weight in kilograms, D is its diameter in millimetres, and L is its Length in meters.

The calculation for the weight of a steel bar:

The weight of steel bars is calculated using the formula: πD*2/ 4 × L × density.

In the formula, w is the weight of the steel, which is 3.14; L is the Length of the steel bar, which is 1 meter; D is the diameter of the steel bar in millimetres, and D = 7850 kg/m3 is the density.

Calculation of TMT bar section weight:

  • 8 mm ø bar = ⁸² x 1/162 = 0.395 kg/m.
  • 10mm ø bar = 1⁰² x 1/162 = 0.617 kg/m.
  • 12mm ø bar = 1²² x 1/162 = 0.888 kg/m.
  • 16mm ø bar = 1⁶² x 1/162 = 1.580 kg/m.
